If you like fine jazz, brimming with spirit, creativity, energy, taste, and exceptional musicianship, you’ll definitely enjoy the Jim Grantham Jazz Quartet. This group, comprised of top San Francisco Bay Area veteran musicians, plays contemporary jazz in a wide variety of styles and moods. The group features many original compositions as well as great jazz standards from composers such as John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea, Joe Henderson, etc. While the band is best heard in concert type venues, they are also available for clubs and parties. Jim Grantham, saxophone stylist, bandleader and composer, plays tenor, soprano saxes and flute. Jim’s music springs from the tradition of melodic lyricism—Lester Young, Dexter Gordon, Stan Getz, Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter. He has performed with many fine musicians including Bobby McFerrin, George Cables, Eddie Moore, Mark Isham, Ed Kelly, Gaylord Birch, Frank Tusa, Calvin Keys. He has recorded with Jessica Williams and Eddie Henderson. He is also a well-known jazz educator, and has authored a popular, in-depth text on jazz improvisation.
Jeff Neighbor is a long time Bay Area master bassist. His incredible career spans over half a century and includes every kind of music. He has worked with many jazz names including: Art Pepper , Blue Mitchell, FrankRossilino, Cab Calloway, Anita O’day and many others. He has also concertized with Barney Kessel, John Handy, Clark Terry, 4 Freshmen, Dan Hicks. His recordings include Denny Zeitlin, Hubert Laws, Hi-Lo’s, Linda Rondstadt and 30+ movie soundtracks.
Keith Saunders, originally from LA, studied with Horace Silver and worked with Eddie Harris, Roy Mc- Curdy, Bill Watrous, and Dick Berk’s Jazz Adoption Agency. After moving to New York City in the 80’s, he worked and/or recorded with Richie Cole, Joe Lovano, Freddie Hubbard, Hank Crawford, John Dooley, Frank Wess, and Lionel Hampton among many others. In 1991, Keith led The Hard Bop Quintet, releasing 4 CDs. Recently relocated in the Bay Area, he has worked with Donald Bailey, Calvin Keys, and Akira Tana, and is rapidly becoming a favorite pianist in the Area.
Jack Dorsey, native New Yorker, is a top, in-demand pro drummer known for his infectious groove. He has performed and recorded interna tionally with such diverse artists as; The Coasters, Randy Crawford, Jose Feliciano, Bobby Freeman, Johnny Griffin, Paul Horn, Etta Jones, Ed Kelly, Buddy Miles, The Oakland Jazz Choir, Denise Perrier, Khalil Shaheed, Paula West, Jimmy Witherspoon, Tabla Master – Zakir Hussein, innumerable others. He’s also recorded for television, theaters and movies. He is a mentor to many students young and old.
